Cover Story of decade’s worst Flood-2019
The Kolhapur and Sangli districts of south west states of Maharashtra, India faced severe floods this monsoon, breaking all time highest water levels than previous 2005 and 1989.
Half of the city and many rural parts were under flood water for more than 15 days from 5th of August 2019. National highway NH-4 was also shut down for a week-long disconnecting Kolhapur from every possible connectivity. More than a billion people were displaced due to flood water and 0.35 billion flood victims were rescued and sheltered in various temporary camps. Domestic, agricultural, industrial, infrastructure overall 6500 crore rupees losses were registered when central government vigilance surveys were conducted to estimate the divested situations.
