Hunt for Indian tiger that devoured eight people in two years
They found his shoes first, scattered a few yards apart. One had a puncture mark in the sole. More clothes were strewn near by. In the surrounding mud were the footprints of a large male tiger.
Maroti Pendor, a 70-year-old farm hand, went to collect firewood on Tuesday in the forest that borders Khambada village, in the western Indian state of Maharashtra. Neighbours saw him return with wood in the afternoon, then head back into the forest with his axe.
